Some people get instant relief, and others feel a significantly reduced pain and stiffness. In rare cases the points don't have an immediate and very obvious effect (especially in cases of trauma such as whiplash) but they do work after a few repetitions (within a few hours between them).
Make sure to be relaxed when doing acupressure and to breathe deeply.
What I found to work especially well is to also move my head left and right slightly and to gently rotate my head while I stimulate the points.
